Pushcart Parties had its humble beginnings back in 1981, when Roy Lucien, the founder and President of Pushcart Parties, traded in his hot dog truck, for a portable hot dog pushcart. Simply put, people raved over the delicious hot dogs that were being served along a busy Long Island street. “There’s nothing like a hot dog served by someone else, rather than preparing it yourself at home”, they would often say. Many even inquired if Roy would be interested in pulling his truck up to their backyard parties, private events, office parties, or their company picnics – Hence, the idea was born! Why not make it easy for people to have a good time, by bringing the party to them?
With the purchase of a single hot dog cart and a van, Roy went into action. Through word-of-mouth, the phone calls kept coming... One cart became two, three, four…Requests for other “fun-food” options such as: popcorn, pretzels, cotton candy, soda, ice cream, tacos, chicken wings, and even egg creams, spurned the offering of more pushcarts. Along with the interest in equipment rentals, full-scale catering and bartending services were requested on a regular basis. It was found that the mobility and portability of the pushcarts enabled them to be used outdoors, in stores, in corporate high-rise offices, back yards, and even on boats. In fact, the overall dimensions of many of the carts allow them to fit through standard doorways, and can even be carried by two people up stairwells (not recommended though).
Throughout the years, Pushcart Parties has had a major role in some of the biggest events in the New York City history. Such events include: Numerous NYC Marathon events, Statue of Liberty Centennial Celebration, Brooklyn Bridge Centennial Celebration Freedom Tower Dedication Ceremony, multiple NYC Mayor & Gubernatorial election parties, ribbon-cutting ceremonies for major attractions, parks, facilities, bridges, & buildings, the Grammy Awards, USS Intrepid, various museum dedications & exhibits, Donald Trump-related events/fundraisers, annual Rockefeller Plaza tree-lighting events, Times Square Celebrations, World Trade Center-related events, the Moscow Circus, Barnum & Bailey, Grucci Fireworks displays, music & concert festivals, celebrity events, and yes, our carts have even been used as props for Good Morning America, various television specials, and feature films such as Sex and the City.
